Flappers
"Flappers first appeared in Great Britain after world war 1"(Nolan 1). The flappers image consists of some shocking changes in women clothing and hair. Nearly every clothing was trimmed down and lightened in order to make movement easier. Jazz dancing required woman to be able to move freely. "They wore short, loose fitting dresses and enhanced their faces with makeup"(Gibson's). Step -ins were underwear that replaced pantaloons and corsets. To look more like a boy, women tightly wound their chest with strips of cloth in order to flatten it (Nolan 1). The waists of flappers clothing were dropped to the hip line. She wore stockings made of rayon ( artificial silk) starting in 1923.
